Ambition

At Coppetts Wood, we are committed to meeting the needs of our community and recognise and celebrate the multi-cultural, multi-faith and socio-economic diversity of our local area, the London borough of Barnet and country we live in.

In accordance with the Department for Education (DfE), we aim to actively promote fundamental British Values to ensure that children leave Coppetts Wood well prepared for secondary school and life in modern Britain.

As of September 2014, the DfE requires all maintained schools to promote the historical and current values that underpin the national identity known as “Being British”. Within this, all schools are required to ensure that the curriculum actively promotes these fundamental British values.

The DfE set out its definition of British values as follows:

  • Democracy
  • The rule of law
  • Individual liberty
  • Mutual respect
  • Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs

We actively promote British values and the Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) development of our pupils through our policies, curriculum and learning environment, assemblies, school council and enrichment opportunities.
